In Burleigh's archives are sketches that are attributed to Charles Wilkes who was responsible for new shape design at Burgess and Leigh. He started in the design studio in 1889 and worked at Burleigh until he retired in 1943.
He was a highly skilled modeller and prolific shape designer, producing hundreds of beautiful sketches, all conveying an almost poetic knowledge of form. Drawing on these elements of form, Burleigh have produced a new decoration that honours all the modellers who have worked to make Burleigh ware so special.
